Instructional Menu

You Pick 2

You can build your own "Pick 2" depending on your students' needs! You can combine any of the sessions (except those that indicate otherwise). These sessions will be combined to make them fit your learning objectives!

Here are a few suggested pairings:

Combo 1:

“Evaluating Information” & “Using and Identifying Information Types”

Students will learn what types of information are available and which ones are reliable for their information needs!

Combo 2:

“Research Strategies” & “Choosing a Topic & Writing a Research Question”

Students will be able to narrow down their topics based on the research plan they make. This will help them write a final research question and utilize their research strategies.

Combo 3:

“Using Sources” & “Evaluating Sources”

Students will learn how to use their sources and evaluate the type of information they are getting from their sources. They will learn how to get effective information from their sources and learn NOT to just make a source fit.

Evaluating Information

This class session will demonstrate techniques for verifying source credibility, introduce tools that can be used to evaluate sources, and hands-on practice evaluating scholarly and popular sources.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Recognize and identify the characteristics of credible research.
  • Assess the credibility of internet content.
  • Use tools to evaluate sources for validity and credibility.
  • Find credible sources to use for information needs.

  • Evaluate your own sources: Check your collected sources for credibility, then write a short reflection on the sources you have chosen.

Session Pre-requisites

  1. Students need to have completed Online Learning Module 2: Research Basics and Online Learning Module 3: Intro to Info.

  1. Students need to have at least one source to evaluate for the research project.
