Below is a list and links to some of the important federal statutes related to education law:

• Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

  P.L. 89-10, 79 Stat. 27 (1965).

• Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

  P..L. 114-95, 129 Stat. 1802 (2015). Like NCLB, ESSA is a reauthorization of the ESEA.

• Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA),

  P.L. 101-476, 104 Stat. 1142 (1990), codified as amended at 20 U.S.C. §1400 et seq.

• McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act,

  P.L. 100-77, 101 Stat. 482 (1987). Subtitle B of Title VII of the act covers education and youth programs for homeless children, codified as amended in 42 U.S.C. §11431 et seq.

• No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)

  P.L. 107-110, 115 Stat. 1425 (2001). NCLB is mainly codified in Chapter 70 of Title 20, 20 U.S.C. § 6301 et seq. NCLB revamped the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, listed below, incorporating new provisions in areas such as standardized testing, accountability, and parental choice.
