Logging in to Canvas

Logging in to Canvas

Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) that you’ll be using to take your courses. When you log in to Canvas, you’ll be able to see all of your course pages as well as an Inbox tool that you can use to get in touch with your professors.

To log in, go to http://columbiacollege.instructure.com. You can also find the link to Canvas either at the bottom of the main Columbia College website or on Koala Connection.

To log in, type in your Columbia College e-mail address (for example, jane.doe@my.columbiasc.edu). Your password will be “Koala” and the last four digits of your Social Security Number (i.e., “Koala1234”).

Setting up Canvas and accessing courses

Setting up Canvas and accessing courses

Before you get started, you may want to set your notifications. You can do this by clicking on the “Account” link from the sidebar menu, then clicking “Notifications.”

When you log in to Canvas, you’ll see your Dashboard, with links to active courses. You can view past, future, and inactive courses by clicking on “Courses” from the sidebar menu, then going to “All Courses.”

Each “course card” links to a different class.

To view course materials, click on the course link. Each course will be set up a little differently, so explore things early. If you have questions, reach out to your professor via “Inbox,” which is accessible from the sidebar menu, or by e-mailing them directly from your webmail.

Getting Canvas help

If you run into problems, you can reach out for help via 24/7 tech support through Instructure, the company that makes Canvas. To chat with them via text, you’ll need to be logged in to Canvas. Click on the “Help” button on the sidebar menu to find the link. You can also call them directly via this number: 1-866-524-3910.

You can find a number of online tutorials for using Canvas by searching for “canvas lms” and whatever you’re trying to do. For example, if you need to submit a paper, go to Google and type in “canvas lms turn in paper,” and you’ll see a detailed step-by-step guide as the first search result.

You can also view a Canvas orientation portal with additional training resources at this link: http://www.bit.ly/ccstudentcanvas. You’ll need to be logged in to view it!
