FACULTY

Faculty often look for support when students and alumni ask for career and job search advice, need assistance if employers ask for help with informing students and alumni about opportunities, and partner with Career Services to offer career exploration and job search workshops to students and student organizations. Refer students, alumni, and employers to Career Services to extend the full support of campus resources. Contact Tracy Powers (tpowers@columbiasc.edu) for assistance.

FACULTY FAQS

When should I refer students to Career Services? Students should start meeting with us early in the first year to establish a plan for expanding their understanding of career choices, developing an initial resume, and creating a plan for future success.

Where should I send students to look for jobs? It's always helpful if students meet with someone in Career Services when they initially begin looking for part-time jobs, summer employment, internships, or career opportunities. We can help them assess if they are ready to launch a search or if they need to enhance their resume and prepare for interviews before applying for vacancies. Career Services will also advise students on the optimal use of Handshake and other job search tools.

If I refer employers to Career Services, will this mean less opportunities for my students? Employers tend to contact faculty first because they view them as a direct link to students in the major that they are primarily targeting. Employers also often have a variety of positions they are trying to fill that relate to many academic programs. Encouraging employers to work with Career Services leads to opportunities for success to a broader population of students and alumni.
