Intellectual Freedom - Literacy: USC - ISCI - 751

Project for 751

Why the partnership?

Both J. Drake Edens and Stanley Library have strong foundations in place to lead their academic institutions in innovative literacy courses from Stanley Library creating games, displays, and offering specialized topical instruction in both Gateway and other courses to J. Drake Edens’ librarians offering a semester long course on literacy and its importance. The instructors worked together to create a seven-week program that showcased both libraries' unique literacy skill sets and would ideally be the most beneficial to each institution. The following core literacies were selected that students from both Columbia College and Ferrum College should graduate with a working knowledge of foundational literacy, informational literacy, critical information literacy, media literacy, news literacy, computer literacy, civic and ethical literacy.
